You must realise that the patient may not return to the same room that he was occupying before going for the angioplasty. Hence prepare to vacate the room.

The patient may come out of the cath lab between 1 -3 hours after he was wheeled in. This is a long wait and can be extremely stressful. Prepare yourself mentally for this wait in advance and plan how you will pass the time. Reminding yourself that your loved one is in the hands of highly skilled professionals and that your worrying is not going to help, may ease your anxiety.

Immediately after the angioplasty, the patient will be taken to the ICCU on a trolley. You can meet him and talk to him at this time.

In the ICCU, you should restrict visitors to only the near family members. Discourage too many visits by friends and acquaintances. They carry infection with them and may tire the patient.
